The pattern on these carpets originates from the Arak area in northern Persia. Originally, it was an English company called The Zigler Company, which, due to the demand in Europe, set up several carpet knitting factories to cover the demand.
Now these carpets are mostly tied in northern Afghanistan / Kabul and parts of Pakistan where there are settlements of Afghan people.
The rugs are made with hand-spun and plant-dyed yarn and they are «stonewashed» after they are finished to get a nice patina.
The colors are usually dull and in earthy tones.
